Dennis Flavin
Dennis Flavin is a vibrant local artist whose exuberant personality and deep community ties shine through his work. For four decades, he ran Gloucester’s beloved Halibut Point restaurant before the pandemic allowed him to fully embrace his lifelong passion for painting.
A graduate of Boston’s Vesper George School of Art, Dennis chose to keep art a personal pursuit, free from commercial pressures. His style evolved from representational work to bold, energetic abstraction, influenced in part by his friendship with Joseph Solman, founding member of the expressionist group The Ten. Their conversations and walks through New York City shaped Dennis’s artistic philosophy.
Today, Dennis paints almost daily in his antique Annisquam barn studio, creating vibrant paintings, pastels, and etchings that stand apart from the region’s traditional coastal imagery.
